I’ve been doing collages for over ten years now – mostly alone, mostly in silence, mostly lost in my own paper worlds. Until recently, I had never collaborated with another collage artist. Then Katrin (@katrinklink_dailyperfectmoment) reached out and asked if I’d be interested in working together on a Starter Series.
To be honest, I had to ask what a starter even is. Katrin kindly explained the idea: she would create a set of unfinished collage beginnings – the “starters” – and send them to me. I would then continue and complete them in my own style. Like a visual conversation, passed back and forth through paper and scissors.
When her six starters arrived in the mail, I was immediately inspired. I especially loved the format and the color palette she had chosen. The compositions had just the right balance of suggestion and space – enough to spark ideas, yet still open and inviting.
This collaboration turned out to be a joyful and enriching experience – one that challenged my habits and opened up new perspectives.
And quite unexpectedly, it also reawakened something that had been missing for a while – the simple urge to create. That’s why I named the series Something got me started – a quiet nod to the Simply Red song I danced to endlessly as a teenager, and to the creative spark that returned through this shared process.
